I’ll be here for a while

We bought a house just to make ourselves
stay in one place for a while.
We’ve been here just half a year
and it no longer feels new
so it must be time to move.
But it’s not.
I’ll be here for a while.
And since moving is how I’ve been being born again,
I’m not sure what would resuscitate me
if I died right here, right now.
Would you bury me in the yard? Have I lived here that long?
No. But I’ll be here for a while.
We have settled, but like a house that has settled,
we will need some work.
Our doors don’t quite shut. There are cracks in our walls.
Maybe this is for the best.
But how will we ever get a fresh start when we are staying in the same place?
We will have years. We will hang a new calendar,
sing old songs,
and get to work.

Enjoying the snow and our backyard.
